About David Dansby

Background

I'm a self-taught software engineer with more than 6 years of experience building data-driven, scalable applications, services, and distributed systems, along with TB-sized data pipelines. I love solving complex problems that allow systems to scale while staying maintainable for future developers.

Before transitioning to software engineering, I spent 4+ years as a data scientist building ML models for loan products and marketing, followed by 2+ years as a data engineer.

Along the way, I spent many late nights self-studying software engineering fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, system design, and database systems. Through this dedication, I became an expert in Python and Go, along with commonly associated technologies: Django, FastAPI, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, REST, gRPC, Protobuf, concurrency primitives and patterns, AWS, GCP, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, and Kubernetes.

This allowed me to transition from data engineering to backend software engineering on the Bitbucket Cloud organization at Atlassian, then move to full stack engineering on Jira Align, where I worked on both frontend and backend to improve the Objectives experience and OKR Hub. Currently, I'm a Senior Software Engineer at Bestow, working from my home office in the Seattle area, where I focus on building gRPC Go microservices for policy management and adding new carrier products to the platform.

I enjoy working with like-minded people who love tackling challenging distributed systems problems.
